Description

Dear all,
First thanks to Anthony for the issues that we were fixed.
Second, I realized that my message was wrong:
Trying to do:
sudo apt-get install robotpkg-dynamic-graph-bridge-v3
Generates the following output:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 robotpkg-dynamic-graph-bridge-v3 : Depends: robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.4) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.1r1) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.3) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.4r2) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.4r1) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.6r2) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.1) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.6r1) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.5) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.5r1) but 3.1.7 is to be installed or
                                             robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.1r2) but 3.1.7 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

The last commit from Anthony did not fix this matter, despite the fact that there is a dependency between
dynamic-graph-bridge-v3 and robotpg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3

May be I am missing a step, but I performed a
sudo apt-get update
to have the latest list of binary packages.

All the best,
Olivier.

 Dear all,

The package robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 is asking for a version of
robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3

which is before (up to 3.1.6r2) the latest binary released in wip 3.1.7.

It looks like the binary dependency has not been updated (or the package
recompiled).

Any insight on this problem will be appreciated.

Best,

Olivier.

Actions #1

  • Status changed from New to Feedback

I have the following:

% apt show robotpkg-dynamic-graph-bridge-v3
[...]
Source: /opt/robotpkg/var/lib/robotpkg/wip/packages/bsd/Ubuntu-16.04-x86_64/pub/dynamic-graph-bridge-v3-3.0.8.tgz
[...]
Depends: robotpkg-sot-dynamic-pinocchio-v3 (= 3.1.7)

I think your issue might be related to the order of repositories you
put in apt/sources.list. I have wip/ first, then robotpkg, and apt
show -a
lists the package in both repositories.

I agree this is a bit confusing, but this is a trade-off between
a "smooth" transition to the separated wip/ repository or breaking
things for users who did not add wip/ yet.

Note that this confusion only happens because wip/ still contains the
same version of the package that was previously published in robotpkg.
As new packages will be released, wip/ version (the newest) will
automatically be seleted no matter the repository order in
apt/sources.list.

So first you should check if changing the order of repos fixes things
for you. Then we should decide if it's acceptable to leave things like
this or not.

Dear Anthony,
Thanks for the tip, it worked.

Good.

Then is it fine to leave old packages in the main robotpkg/ PPA until
they are automatically superseeded by newer versions in the wip/ PPA?

Actions #4

Yes it is fine by me. I would just put an emphasis on putting wip first in the documentation related
to /etc/apt/sources.list.d

Best,
Olivier.
