Sorry to be pedantic, but since this "emptied buffer" is not tunable,
I think it would be cleaner to just remove the code that handles it.
Or maybe even better: make this a tunable option.
A question: is there any software that depends on the previous
"emptied buffer" behaviour?
Obsolete and no feedback.
